Chef Rubén Guzmán
Chef Rubén Guzmán brings over a decade of culinary experience to his new position as head chef for Serafina Beach Hotel, San Juan’s hottest new boutique hotel that opened in March 2018. Serafina Beach Hotel is the first ever hotel concept from the owners behind the successful culinary brand, Serafina Restaurant Group. With strong fine dining and Five-Star, Five-Diamond luxury resort experience, Chef Guzmán is spearheading the culinary teams at the hotel’s dining options including the signature aMare seafood restaurant, the energetic PiñaCo Bar and By the Pool, the hotel’s seductive infinity poolside lounge overlooking the ocean. A Puerto Rico native, Chef Guzmán is utilizing his extensive knowledge about Puerto Rican cuisine and has created dishes that showcase local ingredients and indigenous flavors fused with Serafina’s Italian roots such as fresh carpaccios, tartares and branzino.
Prior to joining Serafina Beach Hotel, Chef Guzmán was at The St. Regis Bahia Beach in Rio Grande working alongside local celebrity Chef Jose Enrique as a chef at The Beach Club restaurant. During his time at The St. Regis Bahia Beach, Chef Guzmán also had the pleasure of leading the pool and beach restaurant kitchen staff at Sea Grapes as their chef and served as a sous chef at Fern, by celebrated Michelin Chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten. As a result of his accomplishments and excellent leadership, he was awarded Manager of the Year in 2017 and 2015 and was a part of the culinary team that represented the resort at the James Beard House in 2017. Chef Guzmán also spent time working at other dining establishments in Puerto Rico such as the award-winning Augusto’s Cuisine, Bistro Tartine and Tantra. Chef Guzmán has also competed in several culinary competitions including the Taste of Caribbean, where he won a silver medal in 2009 for an individual competition and a gold medal in 2009 as well as a silver medal in 2006 in the team division.
In the year 2000, Chef Guzmán studied Culinary Arts at the International School of Tourism and Hospitality Management at the Universidad del Este in Puerto Rico.
